Video leads to arrest in killing
Police have accused a 19-year-old Lancaster city resident of shooting a man to death in August.

Police charge Lancaster city man in hit-and-run death of Ephrata resident struck on Vine St.
Lopez was seen driving a 2000 Chrysler 300 sedan that matched the one described by a witness to the accident, which occurred at 6:20 p.m. Sunday. The car also matched one seen on a Lancaster Community Safety Coalition video that captured images of the accident. Read More >>
Two Teens Arrested in City on Gun Charges
In the Poplar Street incident, a camera operator with the Lancaster Community Safety Coalition contacted police about 1 a.m. after noticing a teen walking around with a gun in his waistband.
Two police officers went to the block and found two male teenagers, ages 16 and 18. The 16-year-old had the gun, a revolver, police said.
When he refused to comply with officers' directions, an officer used a stun gun to subdue him, police said. Read More >>

Man Caught with Stolen Firearm, Two Grams of Crack Cocaine
At 12:35 a.m., Tuesday, the Lancaster Community Safety Coalition contacted Lancaster County Wide Communications to report that a Safety Coalition camera operator had just observed two males carrying handguns in the area of Church St. and Pershing Ave. Officers responded to the area and continued to receive updated information on the location of the suspects. Suspect Shot by Lancaster City Police After Failing to Drop his Weapon
Investigators said that Lancaster County 911 received a report that a man was firing a gun at a moving vehicle.
Moments later, the Lancaster Community Safety Coalition spotted Abrante on their cameras carrying a handgun in the downtown area of North Plum and Park Avenue. Read More >>
Theft: An attempted theft of metal was reported to County 911 by a concerned citizen. Potentially connected individuals were spotted by LCSC cameras, and police were directed to their location. The individuals were questioned and taken into custody. (December 2011)
Harassment: An individual accused of harassing a woman was spotted by LCSC cameras, and police were notified of his location. He was then taken into custody. (December 2011)
Disturbance: A disturbance was reported, and potentially connected individuals were located by LCSC cameras. Video confirmed their involvement, and three people were taken into custody on a variety of charges. (December 2011)
Robbery: LCSC cameras located three individuals connected with a robbery. Their location was reported to police, and they were taken into custody. (December 2011)
Domestic Disturbance: A person involved in a domestic situation was spotted leaving the area of the incident by LCSC cameras. LCSC was able to follow the individual for several blocks until police caught up with him and took him into custody. (December 2011)
Fight: A fight was reported to County 911, and LCSC cameras observed two of the individuals in question leaving the area. Both were taken into custody. (November 2011)
Warrants: An individual wanted by police was seen in the City. LCSC spotted this person and followed them with cameras until police were able to take the individual in question into custody. (November 2011)
Theft: A vehicle was reported to police that it had been broken into, and LCSC cameras spotted an individual potentially connected to the robbery. Police responded and took the individual in question into custody. (November 2011)
Drugs: A drug transaction was reported to police. The individual in question was found to have an outstanding bench warrant and was taken into custody. (October 2011)
Warrants: An individual with several outstanding warrants was spotted by LCSC cameras and his location was relayed to police, who took him into custody. (October 2011)
Vandalism: A citizen reported two juveniles throwing rocks at passing cars. LCSC cameras spotted them, and police were able to issue citations. (October 2011)
Theft: A review of video from LCSC cameras for a burglary shows several individuals leaving an area with items from the residence. Both people were later spotted in another part of town, and video evidence resulted in their being taken into custody. (September 2011)
Homicide: Police and LCSC cameras were involved in surveillance of an individual possibly involved in a homicide. LCSC cameras spotted the individual later in the day and he was taken into custody. (September 2011)
Fight: A fight was reported to County 911 by a resident. The individuals in question left prior to the arrival of police, and LCSC cameras spotted the vehicle. Cameras followed the vehicle across town until police were able to stop it. Both people in the vehicle were taken into custody. (September 2011)
Robbery: A citizen called police to report a robbery. Police stopped an individual with a possible connection to the robbery a short time later. The victim stated that the individual in question was the robber, but LCSC video showed that that person was not in the area at the time of the robbery. As a result, the individual was released. (September 2011)
Warrant: Two juveniles were spotted by a citizen looking into vehicles. LCSC cameras spotted them a short time later and police were alerted. After stopping them, one was discovered to be wanted on an outstanding warrant. (August 2011)
Weapons: A disturbance was reported outside a bar, and LCSC cameras spotted an individual in possession of a handgun. He was seen firing a shot in the direction of a vehicle leaving the area. The individual was followed by the cameras, and police were able to locate him and take him into custody. (August 2011)
Drugs: LCSC cameras spotted two people using drugs in a park. Police responded and took both into custody. (August 2011)
Drugs: LCSC cameras spotted people using drugs in a park. Police responded, and one individual, who was wanted on a felony warrant in Virginia, was taken into custody and extradited. (August 2011)
Warrant: A group was spotted by LCSC cameras preparing to fight. Police responded before any major disturbance occurred, and one of the individuals involved was arrested on an outstanding warrant. (August 2011)
Weapons: An individual was spotted outside a bar by LCSC cameras with a handgun. Police were alerted, and the person was taken into custody. The gun was retrieved. (August 2011)
Weapons: A member within a group of people on the street was seen going into a car and getting a gun. Police were alerted, and when they arrived, the individual was seen trying to conceal the gun under a vehicle. The individual in question was taken into custody and the gun was retrieved. Weapons: LCSC cameras spotted an individual in a vehicle handing a handgun to another occupant. Police were alerted, and stopped the vehicle a short time later. Several guns were found, and arrests were made. (August 2011)
Drugs: LCSC cameras spotted a group in a park using drugs. Police responded and several members of the group were arrested on outstanding warrants. (August 2011)
Theft: A resident reported that their grill was stolen from their yard. Video review showed a person walking out of the yard with the grill. A short time later he was spotted by an LCSC Camera System Operator and his location was reported to police, who stopped the person and arrested him for the theft. (July 2011)
Weapons: An LCSC Camera System Operator spotted two males with guns. The operator contacted police, and while police were en route, the operator described the males and where they had concealed the weapons. Police retrieved both weapons and took the individuals in question into custody. A third person with them was found to have an outstanding warrant, and was arrested as well. (July 2011)
Hit and Run: A hit and run was reported to the police who contacted LCSC. Video from nearby cameras were able to identify the vehicle and provide the license number leading police to the vehicle’s operator. (July 2011)
Robbery: LCSC video was used to help identify subjects involved in several armed robberies and a home invasion. (June 2011)
Drugs: LCSC camera operators spotted a person who was using drugs in a City Park. Police responded and the person was found to have a large quantity of drugs in his possession. He was then taken into custody. (May 2011)
Robbery & Weapons: A gun was pulled on a person working at a city convenience store by a group of people. Police were notified of the robbery and while they were enroute to the store LCSC camera operators found the group entering a vehicle and leaving the store. Cameras followed the vehicle until police were able to stop it several blocks away. Three people were taken into custody and the gun was recovered. (May 2011)
Assault & Theft: A group of people who assaulted and stole a skateboard from a person were spotted by LCSC cameras and notified police of their location. Police responded and one person was arrested for the assault and theft. (April 2011)
Warrants: LCSC camera operators spotted two people committing an ordinance violation. LCSC contacted police who responded and took both people into custody on outstanding warrants. (April 2011)
DUI: A local Wine and Spirits Store called police and reported an obviously intoxicated individual was trying to purchase alcohol. LCSC cameras found the person staggering and entering a vehicle and driving away. The driver was observed consuming alcohol while driving and swerving and nearly hitting a number of parked vehicles. This car was also seen trying to park and driving over the curb. Camera operators followed the vehicle until police were able to get it stopped. The driver was taken into custody for DUI. Drugs: LCSC camera operators observed two people using drugs in a City park and notified police. Police responded and the two youths were found to be truant. They were cited and taken back to school. (March 2011)
Warrant: Police notified LCSC of some subjects that were wanted for various crimes. LCSC camera operators spotted two of these people and alerted police to their location. Both subjects had outstanding warrants and were taken into custody. (March 2011)
Warrant: A disturbance at a church breakfast was called into County 911. A LCSC camera monitor found the two people involved in the disturbance walking away. They were followed by the camera until police were able to catch up to them. One of the people was found to have a warrant and was taken into custody. (March 2011)
Domestic Dispute: A LCSC camera monitor caught a domestic dispute where the female was being beaten. The camera monitor alerted County 911, when police responded and took the male into custody. (February 2011)
Drug Use: LCSC cameras witnessed two people sitting in a car that appeared to be using drugs. LCSC contacted police who found drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Police took the two people into custody. (February 2011)
Hit and Run: Two people were spotted fleeing from the scene of a vehicle crash where the vehicle turned over. Prior to fleeing they were seen trying to turn the vehicle back on its wheels. LCSC called in the location of the fleeing people to the police who arrived at the location and took the people into custody. (February 2011)
Prostitution: LCSC assisted police with several prostitution details. Video footage provided enough evidence for police to make several arrests. (February 2011)
Fights: LCSC called in many fights to police resulting in several arrests. (February 2011)
Drugs: During a Police detail involving undercover drug buys one of the vehicles involved was followed and stopped by Police. Vehicle was found to be stolen and drugs were found in the vehicle. 4 subjects were taken into custody for this incident. (February 2011)
Warrants: A person wanted by Police was spotted by an officer who then lost sight of them. LCSC cameras spotted the person and directed the police to his location where the person was taken into custody. (January 2011)
Fights: Several fights outside local bars were called into police by LCSC. Police responded and broke up fights before they escalated and several persons were taken into custody. (January 2011)
Prostitution: LCSC assisted police while they conducted a number of details to control prostitution in several areas of the City. These details resulted in several arrests. (January 2011)
Vandalism: After a call for vandalism was reported to County 911 the person was spotted by LCSC cameras. Police were alerted to the residence the person entered where they were taken into custody. (January 2011)
Warrants: A LCSC camera monitor saw a person who matched the description of someone who was wanted in connection of a stabbing. The monitor alerted police who responded and took the subject into custody. (January 2011)
